Dr Sun Yat-sen was not just a revolutionary forerunner, he was also a visionary planner of the economic construction of modern China. He began writing The International Development of China in 1917 to elaborate on his blueprint for the country's industrial modernisation, a grand development plan encompassing transport, industry and mining, which he hoped would make his country strong and prosperous. Although Dr Sun's dreams did not come true during his life as a result of the historical restraints of the time, in terms of China's long-term historical development and economic growth, The International Development of China helped the country draft a comprehensive and forward-looking plan for its modernisation. It also offered a great deal of food for thought as well as benchmarks for modern China's industrial and transport infrastructure.
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Dr Sun Yat-sen's birth, the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum and the Guangdong Museum of Revolutionary History are joining hands in 2016 to introduce to the public an array of historical pictures, artefacts and interactive exhibits that showcase the blueprint for national reconstruction designed by Dr Sun as well as aviation construction and the accomplishments his economic master plan led to in the construction of modern China today.
